Colmar is a small city in the Alsace region of France and home to beautiful timber framed architecture and colourful facades. It is definitely one of the easier destinations to photograph. This is mainly because you’ll find the key Instagrammable locations are located quite close together and also due to the style of the buildings. Here are our suggestions of the best Instagram and photography spots in Colmar.

1. The Roesselmann Fountain

The Roesselmann Fountain is located in a square with beautiful surrounding architecture. The fountain compliments these buildings allowing you to create a nice balance image. Head here during the day or at night to capture different types of pictures.

2. Rue Turenne Bridge West View

This bridge is ideal for taking Instagrammable pictures. It includes a fantastic view along the river with fantastic facades either side. As well as this there are some alfresco type restaurants and sometimes even swans in the water which all aid in creating your final image.

3. Rue Turenne Bridge East View

As well as the west view, the east view is also nice. In the water you may find boats that are docked as well as reflections which can aid with your composition. At night it may also be lit up a little as seen below.

4. Petite Venise

A highlight and top Instagram spot in Colmar is around Petite Venise. This is along Quai de la Poissonnerie (a path) and has some of the most picturesque architecture. Along this path you may also be able to capture a tourist train going past that can compliment your photos. As this spot can get busy during the day you may want to come either early morning or late afternoon into twilight.

5. Petite Venise and the river

Just a bit further down you’ll find a bridge which is worth crossing for a different perspective of this part of Colmar. From this spot you can sometimes get perfect reflections in the water. It can also prove to be a good place for sunset and twilight.

6. Grand Rue

Heading a bit deeper into the city you’ll find yourself immersed with colours and timber framed facades. These are perfect for Instagram pictures. When taking your pictures consider getting low to the ground to include the nice cobbled pavement.

7. Place de l’Ancienne Douane

Around Place de l’Ancienne Douane is this spot with a little water feature and trees. The trees can help with your framing. This spot is quite nice to visit around twilight.

8. View from Rue des Tanneurs

Our final suggestion of top Instagram spots in Colmar is the view from Rue des Tanneurs. This is a little similar to the bridge near Petite Venise except provides a slightly different angle. During the day you may often see tour boats going along it as well.
