Lightroom is part of the Adobe Cloud photography packages and a fantastic tool for those looking to quickly edit, as well as organise their photographs. The software comes packed with features including filters, spot removal, sharpening, as well as ways to organise your photo collections. We have been using Lightroom for years and love it. You can see some of our personal photographs (by Mike) here www.mikecleggphotography.com. These would have all been edited mostly using Lightroom, and a couple with Photoshop.

Who would Lightroom and Photoshop CC be good for?
Lightroom can help photographers in a variety of ways including:
- Those who struggle to organise their photographs – Due to the awesome interface you can import your photographs and then easily and quickly organise them into different albums. This helps you to easily find them when you need them. As well as this you can keyword, colour code and rate them which allows you to be that much more organised.
- Photographers who need to quickly edit their pictures – If you’re short on time, or even want to create a consistent look then Lightroom will help. Once your images are imported simply go through the different settings in the editing panels and before long you’ll have transformed your photos into that much more. You can also use photography presets to speed up the process even more.
- Photographers wanting to create HDR images – If you want to create a beautiful HDR image then simply take a bracketed shot (in RAW format) and then select them in Lightroom and merge them. The result will hopefully be an image with lots of detail in the shadows, mid-tones and highlights. You will then need to finish the image with further tweaks of course.
- Photographers who sell online – If you need to keyword your images so that you can sell them online, then you can benefit from the keywording feature. By using this you can add the keywords within the software and then you’ll find many agencies (such as stock companies) will take these keywords straight from the metadata. This saves bucket of time.
Cost
The cheapest plan for Adobe CC (which includes both Lightroom and Photoshop) is £9.98 (at time of writing) – this will vary depending on the country your in and currency. They also offer a 7-day free trial, so it would be worth doing this too to give the software a go and see if you like it.
